Idol Tiki Bar

Project Details

The project involved redesigning the interior of a commercial space on Strahinjića Bana Street. The establishment is located on the ground floor of an old building, with additional facilities in the basement and an outdoor area for potential patio seating. The venue previously operated as a confectionery outlet and covers an area of 105m2 internally and approximately 60m2 externally. The renewed purpose of the establishment is to create a tiki-themed cocktail bar that aligns with the hospitality sector.

Tiki bars are known for their distinct cocktail culture and thematic decor inspired by tropical aesthetics, particularly Polynesian influences. The term ‘tiki’ originated in the United States and derives from Maori nomenclature signifying ancestral origins. The concept of the ‘idol’ bar refers to sculpted figurines representing deities in Maori tradition. Tiki bars originated in New Orleans, drawing inspiration from architectural motifs like arches and foliage. The language used is simple and accessible to a broad audience, and the content remains faithful to the source text.

The design concept involves a textured interior with deep, muted hues, complemented by ambient lighting fixtures that cast intricate shadows on tiki-themed embellishments. The interplay of light and shadow creates dynamic spatial transformations, providing immersive sensory experiences for guests. The space goes beyond its physical boundaries to evoke ephemeral atmospheres influenced by lighting nuances, textural elements, and thematic decor. This enhances the sensory journey of guests amidst the exotic flavours of the cocktails served.
